Eucharist (Holy Communion)
The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.
Opportunities to Receive the Holy Eucharist
Daily Holy Communion, Monday through Friday at 8:00am
Saturday Holy Mass of Anticipation, 5:30pm
Sunday Holy Mass: 8:30am, 10:30am, 12:30pm (Spanish)
Eucharistic Exposition, Adoration and Benediction
Adoration of the Holy Eucharist and Benediction is an opportunity for you to be alone with God and deepen your relationship through this gaze and contemplation on Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. It is also a time to place before our Lord your petitions as well those of others.
English: 1st Friday of the month, 8:30am—3:30pm
2nd Monday of the month, 8:30am—8:00pm
Spanish: 1st Friday of the month, 7:00pm—9:00pm
In-Home Pastoral Care
Extraordinary Ministers (EM) of Holy Communion are the face of Christ and represent the Church and the parish to those sick parishioners who are in need of in-home pastoral care. They bring Jesus in the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist to our brothers and sisters who are not able to join us around the Eucharistic table on Sunday. EMs not only provide Holy Communion and share the Word of God, but they bring compassion as well, offering support and a listening ear.

First Reconciliation and First Communion
Why do we have Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist?
There are seven Sacraments celebrated in the Catholic Church. Each Sacrament, with the exception of “Anointing of the sick,” starts with instruction. Learning about the Sacrament that is to be received so that the Sacrament is understood and desired is very important. Hopefully the processing will bring a deeper understanding of the Sacrament which brings us closer to God.
Who should be participating?
Any baptized Catholic who has reached the age of reason, (7 years of age) and are registered members of St. John the Apostle Church. (Exceptions will be made for children wishing to receive their Sacrament here at St. John the Apostle who are not parishioners only with written permission from their parish priest.)
How does our program work?
Our program has two parts:
Part One: The children in both the Wednesday Evening R.E. Program and the students in 2nd Grade at the SJA school learn about our faith each week using the book “Jesus our Life” from the Faith and Life Series.
Part Two: This part is made up of One Parent Retreat, Three parent/child retreats, the First Reconciliation Service, and First Communion Mass. This part combines the Wednesday evening children, school children and parents together.
Who runs the program:
The regular teachers for the school and RE classes do “Part One” with the children. The Director of Religious Education for SJA, Beth Link, will be running the retreats and organizing the First Reconciliation Service, and the First Communion Mass. Beth will also be taking care of all paper work for both parish and school children.
