Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ. In accordance with the Lord’s will, it is necessary for salvation, as is the Church herself, which we enter by Baptism. As St. Gregory of Nazianzus wrote, “Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift”. It is a gift because it is the sign of God’s lordship and offers grace, enlightenment, immortality and rebirth and as a seal, it is our guard.
Baptism of Infants Since the earliest times, Baptism has been administered to children, for it is a grace and a gift of God that does not presuppose any human merit; children are baptized in the faith of the Church. Entry into Christian life gives access to true freedom. Baptism for infants and young children of our parishioners is celebrated by appointment. Classes for first time parents are required. Godparents are also encouraged to attend. See Baptism Preparatory Classes under Faith Formation for additional information. Upcoming Schedule No baptisms will be scheduled during Lent, but you may complete your paperwork and take the baptism class during Lent. SJA will have baptisms the 3rd Sunday of every month during Spanish Mass and the 4th Sunday of every month in English at rotating Mass times.

Adult Baptism & RCIA
Adults who would like to join the Catholic Church or finish their Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation) can do so by going through a ten month process leading to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, also known as R.C.I.A. These classes start in September, are held on Tuesday evenings 6:30PM - 8:00PM and finish up in May/June. This is a no pressure situation. You do not have to commit to becoming a Catholic in order to come to the classes. Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith are invited including Catholics who have been Baptized, who just want to go deeper in their understanding of the Church. To register or get more information please contact Beth Link 503-742-8228 [email protected] For more detailed information regarding the process for R.C.I.A. and the schedule please click below: |
